Event Report: Teatime With The ADR Society

The Alternative Dispute Resolution Society (UNILAG) put together its very first event for the 2015/16 academic session and it was tagged “Teatime With The ADR Society” and it was a huge success. The society used this as an avenue to introduce students of the Faculty of Law, the University of Lagos to the concept of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), one which before the event remained a largely unknown aspect of dispute resolution with most students only involved in trials and court processes.

Teatime…

The event started off with the Opening Prayer by one of the students in attendance, then the Invitation of our beautiful guests to the high table. Mr Tolu Obamuroh of the Lagos Court of Arbitration was first to arrive at the event, closely followed by Mr. Rotimi Aju MCIArb, a Partner at the reputable law firm, Consolex Legal Practitioners and finally, our beautiful ‘Mummy’ matron, Mrs Shola Adegbonmire FCIArb.

The President of our society, Iluezi-Ogbaudu Efemena then went on to give the Opening Remarks and from the there on, the event got into full gear. Anchored by the amiable Project Supervisor of the society, Chiamaka Ibeh, it was a beautiful one from then on.

Mr Tolu Obamuroh held an interactive session with the students teaching them the basics of Alternative Dispute Resolution and Arbitration in a little detail. The students were inquisitive and kept asking questions, all of which were eventually answered. The society always looks to reward effort and gave out prizes to individuals who impressed in one way or the other. There was also a Word Search contest and a few students emerged winners of free entry forms to The Alternative Dispute Resolution Society.

Mr Rotimi Aju MCIArb & Mrs Shola Adegbonmire also spoke to supplement Mr Tolu Obamuroh’s speech and Mrs Shola Adegbonmire promised an attendee free participation in the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK (Nigeria) exams after he emerged winner of a Fastest Finger Contest.

The event came to an end after a few of our students came to speak about their “ADR Experience” with refreshments dished out to all attendees present and airtime given out by Miss Dein Jack, Financial Secretary of the Society.

The Alternative Dispute Resolution Society would like to appreciate Consolex Legal Practitioners as the event would not have been possible without their support. We would also like to appreciate The Lagos Court of Arbitration (LCA) and The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK (Nigerian Branch) for their continued support.
