On Wednesday, 3rd of August, the Alternative Dispute Resolution Society (UNILAG), in conjuction with the Oil and Gas Bar (UNILAG) hosted the inaugural edition of the Petroleum Negotiation & Arbitration Workshop.

The programme comprised of two sessions, one on Petroleum Negotiations and the other on Petroleum Arbitration.

The event kicked off with the opening prayer, then the opening remarks by Ibiyode Ibikunle (President, Oil and Gas Bar) and Iluezi-Ogbaudu Efemena (President, The ADR Society), both of whom welcomed the attendees to the workshop.

Without taking so much time, the programme proper commenced with an Introduction to Petroleum Negotiations by Ibiyode Ibikunle (President, Oil and Gas Bar) and then a presentation by Miss Stella Duru (Partner, Banwo & Ighodalo). The attendees were thrilled by both presentations and gave a resounding round of applause as it came to an end. Questions were asked and the speakers ensured they were answered.

The Petroleum Arbitration session kicked off immediately after and it featured Iluezi-Ogbaudu Efemena (President, The ADR Society), who gave an Overview/Introduction to Arbitration as it is in the Petroleum Industry, Mr. Tolu Obamuroh (Associate General Counsel, Lagos Court of Arbitration) who spoke on The Arbitration Agreement and Mr. Folahan Ajayi Adebayo FCIArb (Counsel, ACAS Law) who wrapped things up with a discussion on Recognition & Enforcement and Setting Aside of Awards. The session, like the former was both thought-provoking amd enlightening as the students could not get enough of the speakers.

The workshop came to a close with announcements being made about membership in the AIPN and CIArb while the attendees left the conference hall to have lunch.
On behalf of our society, and the Oil and Gas Bar (UNILAG), we appreciate our sponsors, Consolex Legal Practitioners, Bloomfield Partners, Banwo & Ighodalo, AIPN, Lagos Court of Arbitration and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK (Nigeria Branch).
